Back 2 Reality

Well folks I have returned from NOLA. I came back a day early because I am an overprotected mother that discovered my daughter Dari had a skin rash and I panicked and came home Friday am. Now for the important stuff. I was able to get a small interview from everyone I talked with. First let me tell you about Ms. Dee: she is a wonderful daycare teacher at "Happy Times Daycare" who survived the "Katrina" and decided to return home willingly. She told me about being in Baton Rouge with her family and attempting to come home when police informed her that "there was water in NOLA." She was re-routed to a shelter outside of town and stayed there with her family for over 90 days. During that time her child was able to get in school and attend functions at the local "Y" to minimize the stress of the transition. She talks enthusiatically and proudly to be resident of NOLA. Our taxi driver Tony was so hilarious. He talked about riding a motorcycle 700 miles to Michigan City, IN. If anyone met Tony you can see him doing this. He also chose to come back home shortly afterwards. I met a family singing gospel on the street of Decatur. They were still feeling the sting of the 4 year old storm. They had been thrown out of their hotel on Tuesday for not having $55.00 for their stay. I shared my leftovers with their daughter and she was oh so happy. Yes their is still pain in NOLA, but the joy is scene despite. I visited Fat's Domino home and discovered that our hotel clerk Cynthia's home was directly across from Fats. What a trip! I met so many awesome teachers and adminstrators in the NOLA district that were really glad to be where they were. I could go on and on but time is short and I want you to read everyone's blog, because we all have a very special story. Msdetermind
